Me and My extra sensitive skin!!!!!!!!

Hi my name is Aparna and I am 32 yrs old from New Delhi India.... I have a wheatish-fair asian complexion and have been suffering from acne issues for a long long long long time..i have a combination sensitive skin..cant use any make up or cream.....me and my parents never felt the need to visit a dermatologist as we all thought it would go off and its just a teen acne issue..i never was able to use make up..not that i was interested in it either..but i realised that when ever i used anything on my skin it used to react..badly...however time passed but i never really bothered to do anything about it....

I started taking homeopathy medicines and o god...i cant even tell u my happiness when within a month i realsied that my face is clearing..my acne issue has been 99% resolved .... now i am in UAE and now i have started using olive oil+lemon juice+rose water concoction on my super sensitive skin every night and o god...i cant tell u how different it feels..its feels like a new birth...like a new skin every morning...soft and bright.. i love it!!!!!!!!

some times i add little castor oil when i have acne...yes i cant believe oil is helping me to get rid of acne...and aloevera in day time..

Now occasionally I use a face compact..i don't feel i need any make up..i am so confident... I have have few freckles on my face and hopping after 3 months of my regime i will see some reduction in them too...

I exercise and try to eat as healthy as possible...

the only concern I have is my nose sides which are reddish and the freckles??????? do u think using olive oil+lemon juice+rose water concoction on my super sensitive skin every night help in reduce my freckles?????? Please help...

Our reply

Hi Aparna, I am so glad to hear that you are finding some solutions for acne that work for your super sensitive skin! Thanks so much for sharing your story.

Yes, skin lightening is even more challenging for people with sensitive skin. Whatever you try, be sure to do a skin test first on the inside of your elbow or wrist to make sure you can use it without getting a breakout or rash.

We have a section of our site on lightening sensitive skin which you may find helpful in finding a solution to lighten your freckles. I hope this is helpful for you!

Hair loss
by: My Sensitive Skincare

Hi Aparna, I'm so glad that you are finding your skin looking well from juicing and your daily routine! That's great news. Yes, hair loss is a complicated issue, it could be from almost anything, including stress. I've studied this some and you need to find the cause first. Once you discover why your hair is falling out, you can do your best to help. There are many things you can do such as using nontoxic hair products, gently massaging your scalp, brushing your hair with a boar bristle brush (find a company that is cruelty free)and be sure to eat enough protein (but not too much) and essential fatty acids.

Can you guide me about hair fall? I always had this problem..and recently I see more of it.. I am using minoxidil 2%..but am not sure if its working any more....

Aloe vera and sensitive skin
by: My Sensitive Skincare

You are very welcome Aparna, thank you for sharing your questions. Many of us with sensitive skin have the very same problems, we are trying to learn what kinds of lotions and skincare will work best to 1. help us look our best and 2. not cause more breakouts and rashes.

This can be a challenge because we and our skin are always changing! I think that you are doing well, you are listening to your skin and using products that seem to work for you.

Unfortunately, there is is no one answer to your question about using Aloe vera as a facial cream. You are the expert in how your skin responds, and the only way to know is to try it and see. Aloe vera is known for its healing properties and is used in many natural skincare products. It works well for some, for others it may cause some irritation. It does have an astringent effect which is why your skin feels a little tight after using it.

It seems that this a good routine for your skin, as it is working well. Again, the question about whether you are using too many products is one that can only be answered by you. For some people with hypersensitive skin, using 4 or 5 different products is OK, for others, that would be too many. Only you would know this.

I do understand that you are distressed to be finding wrinkles on your skin, and many of the antiaging treatments on the market are too harsh for sensitive skin. This is a normal experience as we become more mature and experienced in life. :) I have written some about the antiaging products I've found that seem to work well without being too irritating. For me, facial exercise has been definitely the #1 help in this area. It does take some time to learn, and 15 minutes a day for the first few months (then you can go to 3 or 4 times a week). Best of all, after your initial low cost for the course, it is free and much less expensive than skincare products! :)

hypoallergenic aloe vera gell on sensitive skin
by: Aparna

Hi,

Thank you so much for your advice. I would lik to know if hypoallergenic aleovera gel is good for my sensitive skin or not?

Whenever I apply the gel it makes my skin tight sometimes if I apply bit more than usual..I cant even open my mouth....it gives a very nice shine to my face immediately after applying it.

This tight skin..will it increase my wrinkles on my face? Is it really moisturizing my skin? How do I know tht?

Aleovera gell doesnt have any side effect on my face...so I use it after bath....but I am still not sure if the tight feeling on my skin is good or not....will this effect encourage more wrinkles?

I dont believe in putting too many products on my face..I use it simply coz it hasnt shown any negative effect yet.

Can pl tell me if d below listed items is fine for my skin?

1)aleovera gel

2) hypoallergenic sunscreen lotion

3) face washwith cetaphil gental cleaning lotion

4) glycolic acid cream

5) facial scrub twice a week

Do u think its a good n safe routine?

I still have open pores n redness alittle acne..but I feel my skin has improved after using glycolic acid cream..

How ever do u feel I am using too many products? Pl advice

Thank you
Aparna

Glycolic acid and sensitive skin
by: My Sensitive Skincare

Hi Aparna, thank you for your message. I'm not familiar with the product you mentioned, although I know that glycolic acid can be a skin irritant for some people. I don't know much about using glycolic acid, as I find many of these kind of ingredients can be irritating for my skin. I have found the Xtendlife skincare products to be the least irritating of the specific anti-wrinkle products I've tried. They also have a skin lightening cream which is very safe and gentle, and helps to brighten your complexion. I tested them out when I was under a huge amount of stress, so much so that I had to stop all skincare products. I was using no products and still having breakouts and the Xtendlife actually reduced my breakouts, as well as the wrinkling. I don't know if this will help your skin, but you can learn more about my experience here.

One additional thought about dull skin, sometimes simply adding more vegetables and fruits to your diet can help with this.

Glycolic acid 5% cream on my sensitive skin
by: Aparna

Hi,

I would like to ask you something regarding my skin. I realised that my redness on my cheeks was not going and lots of freckles were coming up. So i started using a product call AHACID- its a glycolic acid cream 5% ..and after using it for a monthat night i see a dramatic difference in my skin. the redness has gone n freckles have reduced a lot. I feel i found a cream finally which might actually help me.I have started using glycolic acid 10% once a week too.

However i do have few questions to ask as am not very sure about few things considering my sensitive skin:

Ques 1- What other creams or ingredients i should NOT apply along with glycolic acid cream?

Ques 2 - I see few wrinkles coming up on my forehead, can you pl suggest some serum which i can use along with glycolic acid?

Ques 3- when can i start using glycolic acid 10% on every day basis?

Eagerly waiting for your reply.
Thank You
Aparna

Wrinkles and sensitive skin
by: My Sensitive Skincare

Hi Aparna,

I'm sorry, I do understand! Yes, as we get older, wrinkles can appear and it is one of the realities that many of us face. I don't know a lot about this subject except for my own personal experiences. Although I don't spend a lot of time trying to hide my age, I do like to look my best! :) I have found that keeping my face firm and toned with facial exercise helps to minimize wrinkles, (and it reduces headaches as well!), There are specific exercises you can do to reduce under eye wrinkling. Also, the home remedy of placing fresh cucumbers or potatoes on your (closed) eyes really can help and may be less expensive than using eye creams!

Resting
by: My Sensitive Skin Care

You're very welcome Aparna! Yes, the intense heat can be very difficult for our skin, and it is also difficult to feel motivated to exercise. It's OK to rest when you need to, our bodies always appreciate this too.

There is hope
by: My Sensitive Skin Care

Hi Aparna,

Thanks for your update. I do understand how you can feel so challenged when you do everything possible to be healthy, but you still are noticing problems.

One of the challenges we all face (I do too!) is that our bodies and our skin do change over time. What works great at one time may not work in another.

For example, I am currently experiencing a lot of breakouts on my face, since I was exposed to ant spray a few weeks ago. Perhaps this stressed my immune system. Since then, my face became more reactive to everything.

I have been experimenting by stopping all skincare remedies and products until the rash is better.

So in your situation, first I recommend that you appreciate yourself and congratulate yourself for doing such an amazing job of eating healthy and losing weight! That is fantastic! :)

It can take your body a while to adjust to a new diet, and I would recommend checking with your doctor or health professional to see if you may have any nutritional deficiencies or health issues. Sometimes hair loss and a dull complexion are signs of a nutritional deficiency. They can also help you to see if there are any nutritional or chemical or health reasons that you are seeing a darkening of your skin.

There are a few gentle treatments that help to liven up your complexion as well.

  • Gentle steaming of the skin, then splash with cool water.
  • Very gentle facial massage and facial exercise
  • For some people, exfoliation of the skin ... you'll need to be careful with this. You can search our site to find many good tips for this.

Our bodies are always changing and so sometimes it takes a while to find those things that will work for our sensitive skin.

You've already given your body such a wonderful gift with all the healthy eating and exercise you have been doing. I encourage you to continue this, and to be patient with yourself as you search for a solution that will help your skin.

One other thing ... I have discovered that rubbing the fresh rind of a lemon on my skin is a fantastic natural beauty treatment which is lightening age spots and reducing wrinkles. I use this primarily on my arms and hands which are often exposed to sun. Once in a while I use this on my face as well although I'm not sure yet the effect on facial complexion. I find it less irritating than lemon juice.

This may not work for you (always test first on your arm!) but it may be another option if lemon juice is too irritating for you.

I hope these tips are helpful for you!
