Natural Health Tip of the Month

OK, for many of us it is summer right now, however this tip applies to anyone, no matter what season it is where you live!!

It's very simple but EASY TO FORGET...

To have healthy, clear skin, you need to drink plenty of pure water.

Now lemonades, iced teas, fruit drinks, vitamin C drinks and juices all add some liquid to your diet, but what you MOST need to help your body to function at it's most optimal level, is pure, clean water.

Water helps to purify and detoxify your body, and helps all your other elimination systems to work properly.

When your elimination gets clogged, your skin ends up with the brunt of the job. Ouch! That can mean pimples, rashes and other unsightly and embarrassing skin problems.

Naturopathic doctors recommend that we drink half our body weight in ounces every day. I don't know how to calculate that in the metric system, but that means if you weigh 150 lbs, it is recommended to drink 75 ounces of pure water a day.

That's between 9 and 10 cups a day, which may sound like a lot, but you'll be amazed at how much better you feel! Try it for a week and see what happens.

Tips for Remembering to Drink Enough Water

If you tend to forget to drink enough water, there are several ways you can remind yourself.

  1. Place 8, 9 or 10 coins, dried beans or other small objects on the kitchen counter, or on your desk at work. This will remind you to drink your water. Each time you drink a cup, move the coin over to another side of the counter or desk. At the end of the day you'll be able to make sure you drank enough.

  2. Place a pitcher of clear water near your desk or any other area that you spend a lot of time at. This will automatically remind you to drink enough.

  3. When you go out of the house, carry a bottle of water with you! Now you can get stainless steel water bottles that are lightweight and free of plastics and other toxins.

Get the Most Benefit from Your Water

Here are some additional tips to get the most benefit from drinking your water to clear your skin.

  • Drink one or two full glasses of water right after you wake up. This will flush your system and help you get a great start to the day. Wait 15 minutes or more before eating or drinking anything else.

  • If you drink coffee or caffeinated tea, (such as black tea, green tea or yerba mate tea) you'll need to drink some extra water as these act as a diuretic and cause your body to flush more water out of your system.

  • Drink pure water that does not have chlorine or other toxins. Many types of water that are packaged in plastic contain chemicals that dissolve into the water. You may need to filter your water.

New From Cleure

Cleure, of my favorite companies that makes hypoallergenic products for sensitive skin just created a new travel kit which you can take with you when you travel.

I always run into more skin problems when I travel, and this is a great new option for allergy free and blemish free vacations!

You can also use this kit to sample some of their products. It contains the following hypoallergenic products in small travel sizes:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Facial and Body Cleanser
  • Facial Toner
  • Sunscreen
  • Body Lotion
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush and brush picks
  • Travel bag

Cleure products are the only ones I've found that are BOTH hypoallergenic AND free from irritating chemicals ...

AND perhaps one of their best benefits is that they work really well. It's really difficult to find high performance hypoallergenic products.

Most hypoallergenic brands I have tried simply don't work! Or, they actually end up causing skin rashes anyways!!

I took travel sizes of their shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and sunscreen with me on my recent travels. My family just loved how my hair looked!! I haven't yet told them about my saga of finding a good hypoallergenic shampoo. :-)

Remember to do a skin test first, even when using natural ingredients!

Amazing Facial Mask for Sensitive Skin

This mask will tighten pores, reduce acne, improve the complexion and will make your face glow, without a lot of potential for irritation.

Blend one part organic chickpea flour, also know as gram flour, garbanzo flour, or besan, with two parts of pure water. You can get this at a health food store or Indian food store.

Apply to your face and leave for 10 to 20 minutes. Before washing off, gently rub your skin in a circular motion to increase the exfoliation benefits.

You can also make this paste with a little yogurt or milk (if you know you're not allergic to milk) which provides natural alpha hydroxy acids for the skin.

You can also add a spoonful of honey to the mixture if you wish. Honey has many natural healing benefits for the skin.

Some people add a touch of turmeric to this mixture, which has natural anti-inflammatory and skin lightening properties, however turmeric can potentially cause skin irritation so is not the best choice for sensitive skin.

Simple Natural Moisturizers

If you have sensitive skin, products that contain a long list of ingredients have more potential to cause skin irritation. If your skin problems are very intense, you may want to go on a skincare product "fast" by stopping all products until your rashes improve.

There are several natural "one ingredient" natural moisturizers you can try. They may be all you need! Be sure to do a skin test, and don't use if you know you have a known allergy to the ingredients.

Here are some of them:

Now using a one ingredient moisturizer may not give you everything you are looking for in a moisturizer, however it is a great start especially right after you are recovering from a skin inflammation or breakout.

Then, when your skin rashes are more under control, try using hypoallergenic products that have a shorter list of ingredients (which means they are less likely to have one ingredient that will cause a problem).

That's one of the reasons I recommend Cleure products as they manage to create safe and very effective products without irritants, plant allergens or a long list of ingredients.

{!firstname_fix}, I hope you have an absolutely fantastic month! Please let me know how we can continue to be of help to you with your sensitive skin!

Best wishes,
