Natural Health Tip of the Month

Years ago I studied Acupressure massage with a delightful practitioner who used to joke about all the work we did with the spine. "Spine with me!" he'd say, quite cheerfully, to almost any question that required a "yes" answer!!

Now, you may be wondering what on Earth your spine has to do with skincare??

Actually, quite a lot!

Stress is a really major factor in so many chronic skin problems, and also the types of chronic health problems that can cause skin problems.

Stress affects your spine, which in turn affects the nerves, glands, and muscles in every area of your body!

Did you know that relaxing your spine has an absolutely huge effect on your whole body, AND your skin? Just take a look at anyone who has spent a few minutes relaxing their spine ... their skin is glowing and their face is relaxed.

Relaxing your spine and releasing blockages of tension along your spine has a huge effect on your skin, and also on your energy level and your overall health and vitality.

Now, that might sound rather complicated, painful or difficult, but actually there are a number of really simple, gentle ways you can relax your spine, de-stress, and therefore help your whole body and your skin.

Here are just a few...

Do you have additional tips for helping to relax your body or your spine that have made a difference in your skin? Please share your tips!

Simple Natural Ways to Exfoliate

  • Coconut milk is a gentle, mild exfoliant. Add shredded coconut to make an invigorating body scrub!

  • Fresh strawberries mixed with coconut oil make a great hand treatment, and the strawberries provide gentle exfoliation. Always do a skin test to make sure you are not allergic to strawberries! Add a little sugar for greater exfoliation.

  • Fresh papaya is a refreshing natural exoliant. Always do a skin test first. Mash and apply to the skin, or mix with yogurt which also has mild exfoliation properties from the natural alpha hydroxy acids.

  • Mix equal amounts of blueberries with oat flour and apply to your face as a facial mask. For extra exfoliation add a little finely ground almond flour.

Fun Banana Facial Masks

  • For normal skin - blend equal amounts of honey and organic yogurt, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse with cool black tea or green tea.

  • For oily skin - blend banana with a little jojoba oil and rice flour, so that you make a paste that you can apply to your skin. Leave on for up to 30 minutes.

  • For sensitive skin - blend banana with a teaspoon of honey, apply to your face and leave for 10 or 15 minutes.
