Hi

I have had psoriasis for a long time now, and have been finding ways to control it, a lot of people have said that food can be the trigger, but I just don't know, currently I am using creams every hour to calm things down, and I am also on bed rest doctors say that works to, but I am getting to the point where psoriasis is taking over my life, I just want a way to keep things under control, if food is a cause of psoriasis flare, please could you tell me, which types of food to stay away from, and which foods I can eat, I am willing to do anything to changing diet, my diet is quite bad at the moment, and would also like to improve my diet. Thank you.

Our reply

Hi, and thanks for your message. I'm so sorry for the difficulty you are having with psoriasis. Yes, you may be able to help your psoriasis by helping your body to be nourished with healthier foods. If your psoriasis is very severe, I recommend you seek out a good natural healthcare practitioner or holistic MD who can advise you. Most conventional medical doctors are not trained in this kind of nutritional approach, however Naturopathic doctors and some Acupuncturists may be able to help.

It is important to understand that there is no one single psoriasis diet that will work for everyone, so you will need to develop an ongoing relationship with your body to see what kinds of food will be most nourishing and supportive.

We have a section on Diet for Psoriasis that offers some helpful suggestions for foods to eat more of , and foods to eat less of or to avoid completely. I hope this can be helpful to you. We also have an entire section of our site devoted to psoriasis causes and treatments which also includes some pictures, and some natural remedies for psoriasis.

I am not a healthcare practitioner but in my own experience with chronic skin conditions, I have found that regular exercise is also very helpful in helping the skin to eliminate toxins and to be maximally healthy. Once your psoriasis is more under control, I recommend you talk with your doctor or healthcare practitioner about a regular program of gentle exercise to help your overall health as well as you skin. I hope you are able to feel better soon!

Thank you for sharing
by: My Sensitive Skin Care

Hi Sairah, thank you so much for sharing your experience so that others with bad psoriasis can learn more about how the foods they eat may aggravate the breakouts. For many of us with sensitive skin it is a trial and error process, where we don't really know until we actually eat certain foods how they will affect us. I hope that your skin recovers soon, and that you continue to learn which foods help your psoriasis.

No Fast Food!
by: Sairah

Ok so I decided to be a bit naughty and have some fast food "chicken" and that is clearly a no no! It hasnt helped my skin today at all, expect it has made it worse, I am feeling a lot itchier than I have been in the last couple days, and this is making me take more itcy tablets. So I reckon my advice stay away from fast food or processed food, they will not help the body, they will just make it worse. Apart from that, I have been sticking to bed rest and emoilents every hour for the time being, and that seems to be doing the job, my face was a lot clearer yesterday, and after I had the chicken my face seems to be starting up again, now as with creams I was doing my face every two hours, and for today I have decided to go back to every hour just so my face can settle again, which it will with all the creams. I am hoping this will help others that are in the same situation as me, if you cant figure out what is causing the psoriasis to keep flaring start looking at what you eat... you never know, maybe it is a food that isnt agreeing with you, and who knows maybe that might be the answer. Good luck and get well soon.

Psoraisis and Food
by: Sairah

As I have mentioned that I have psoriasis, I have decided to do some experienting with the foods that I eat, and my normal everyday habbits. Regards to food, I am going to go healthier, I have had loads of "junk food" in the past, and I can say it hasnt helped me at all, only last week I went to Nandos with a friends, and the psoriasis came back, not as bad as it has been in the past, but this time it effected my face, and psoriasis has always stayed away from my face. So Nandos is a no no for the time being. From now on I am going to keep like a "diary" of food eating what I eat will go down in a book or on here, and next to it will be how it's effecting my skin. I havent done this in the past, so hopefully I will be able to have see some postive outcome.
As for everyday habbits I am bad when it comes to waking up in the morning and going to bed at a normal time; so I do plan to change that is well starting from today, now I know I am on itchy tablets and that dosent help the situation, but I can control waking up at the right time instead of 2 in the afternoon. Hopefully I am hoping this will someone help with the posirais. So as it is getting I am going to get some sleep, and will keep update with the psoriasis.
